Unless you complement your carbohydrate source with protein, your body will start to digest its own protein (muscle tissue) for energy after about 90 minutes of hard exercise. So when your training takes you beyond the range of HAMMER GEL alone, you can rely on SUSTAINED ENERGY with its 7:1 carbohydrate : protein ratio. SUSTAINED ENERGY contains a superior blend of complex carbohydrates, a precise amount of protein, and a few carefully selected micronutrients that all work synergistically to provide consistent, long-lasting energy. With SUSTAINED ENERGY, you'll have 100% confidence in your fuel, even during your longest and hardest training sessions and races. Without any added flavoring or sweeteners, it has a pleasant neutral flavor.
Since 1992 SUSTAINED ENERGY has stood the test of time in every conceivable endurance and ultra-endurance event. No matter how difficult or lengthy your exercise or race is, SUSTAINED ENERGY will come through every time, and keep you going mile after mile, hour after hour. Benefits:

Sustained Energy Single Serving Usage Instructions
For workouts and competitions lasting less than one hour: Use HAMMER GEL, which can be taken straight or mixed in a water bottle just like a powdered energy drink. Please refer to the HAMMER GEL instructions for more information.
For workouts and competitions lasting more than one hour: Begin drinking small amounts of SE solution every 15-20 minutes. Under normal conditions a one packet (equaling a 3-scoop serving) of SE supplemented with water (totaling approx. 24 ounces of fluid) is sufficient for an hour. Some prefer to mix 2 - 4 packets per bottle and nurse it for 2-4 hours, supplementing that intake with sufficient amounts of water.
For hot weather workouts and competitions: As the temperature increases, our bodies become less efficient at processing and assimilating food. While obtaining adequate calories is still necessary, maintaining proper hydration and electrolyte levels becomes more of a priority. Do not feel it necessary to try and maintain the same caloric intake if the heat is causing you to feel less than perfect. It is OK to lower calorie intake for awhile until you start feeling better. During this time it will be necessary to maintain hydration levels via plain water and a lower concentration of SE mixture (or HAMMER GEL) while increasing electrolyte intakes. Once your body starts coming around, then it will be OK to go back to your previous SE mixture.
Each packet of Sustained Energy (SE), mixed in per 24-ounces of water, provides sufficient amounts of calories (343), carbohydrates (73 grams), and protein (10.5 grams) to sustain energy levels for an hour or more. However, this is not a "one size fits all" type of product. Everyone is different and the amount of Sustained Energy used can and should be customized by each individual. Experimentation in training is imperative. It is important, especially if you've been using other drink mixes, to realize that serving sizes, nutrient content, and calories between various products are different and that the suggested serving size of another product will not contain the same calories or nutrient profile as the suggested serving size of SE. For example, a serving of Cytomax yields approximately 100 calories, 25 grams of carbohydrates and 0 grams of protein whereas a packet of SE yields nearly 343 calories, 73 grams of carbohydrates, and 10.5 grams of protein. So don't make the mistake of equating the suggested serving dose from another product with SE. It is much more important to base your needs on calories than on quantities of "servings". Your needs (in essence, your serving size) can be as low as 1/3 of a packet per hour up to 1 - 1.5 packets per hour. Again, you will need to experiment with SE in training to determine exactly what your needs are. This is especially important in hot weather, as the body's ability to process and assimilate food becomes impaired. So while one packet (equal to a 3-scoop serving) is considered the suggested hourly dosage, it is OK to cut back on the amount you use as the weather dictates, augmenting with regular water and increasing the amount of electrolytes (HAMMER ENDUROLYTES) you consume.
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS: One of the benefits of this product is the ability of the user to mix it as concentrated as desired, up to 2 - 3 packets per bottle. However, it is important to remember that a fluid intake of up to 24 ounces per hour is essential for maintaining hydration. So 2 packets of SE in a 24-oz. bottle don't really yield 21 ounces of fluid; it may be closer to 15-18 ounces. Augmenting and self-diluting the mixture with a separate bottle of plain water is necessary to maintain adequate hydration levels. If flavoring is desired, HAMMER GEL can be added to the SE mixture. |
