"Feed the Machine has had a major impact on my fitness and training. They are my one stop shop for all my nutritional needs, as well as any advice I need on training and nutrition. They have everything I need under one roof and I couldn't be happier to have their SportMulti as the centerpiece of my daily supplement intake. Highly recommend FTM and the team behind it!"

Mike started his Triathlon adventure back in 1984 when he was asked to do the swimming part of a relay. Eventually the other 2 guys dropped out, so Mike thought “this doesn’t seem that tough, I’m a swimmer and a runner, I can do this whole thing.” That was the USTS Bud Light Triathlon in Clear Lake, in 1984 and Mike has been hooked ever since.

At the age of 7, Mike starting his athletic career as a swimmer in Dallas, TX, and this is where Mike found his first passion for sports. Although he started swimming in Dallas, it’s when his family moved to Houston that he began to expand his athletic skills. Running track in Middle School and swimming on the neighborhood swim team, then progressing to Cross Country in High School in addition to Swimming 4 years in High School gave Mike the background that would eventually lead to his successful Triathlon career. “I was never good at team sports like football or basketball, but I loved to run and loved to be in the water, so Triathlon was a natural choice for me”.

After Mike competed in a few triathlons during his High School years, he knew that this was the sport for him, and he could be successful at it if he focused on it. It wasn’t until Mike moved to Austin in 1989 that he started taking the sport seriously. At that time, Austin was a mecca for Triathlon and aspiring Triathletes. The city was still small and was a perfect place for training with the lakes and hill country surrounding it. His closest friend, Chris Toriggino was competing at the Pro Triathlete level and training with him helped Mike achieve numerous age group podium spots over the 6 years in Austin.

Now 30 years later in the 45-49 age group, Mike is still standing on the podium at almost every race he competes in. His friend Chris is now his coach and he is enjoys the sport more than ever, but his focus is different now than it was before. Back in the 80’s and 90’s we didn’t have HR monitors, power meters, training plans and meal plans, we went all out all the time and recovered with beer and pizza. I’ve learned a lot over 30 years in this sport, but in the end it’s still a test of one’s athletic ability in 3 different disciplines, and may the fastest person win!”
